One Another
“And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. 16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”
James 5:15-16
James 5:15-16
Throughout the new testament there are over 100 instances where the phrase "one another" is used. They encouraged, supported, cared for, shared with, and prayed for one another. This community of believers is what made the early church so strong, healthy, and effective. They had one mind, one spirit, and one purpose that everyone pursued. When a problem came up, they solved it together. When a person needed food or prayer or any other form of support, the community immediately came together to fill the need.
It was just as important to be willing to receive help as it was to be willing to give help. Often, our pride will prevent us from asking for help. It takes courage and humility to ask for or receive help and also to confess sin or admit when we are wrong. But the Bible says that this is what we should do, and the result of it will be that we will receive healing. Prayer is powerful and effective, but no one is able to pray for you and what you are facing if you are unwilling to share that need with them.
