Simple Truth

“Never worry about anything”
Phillipians 4:6 NLT

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?
Matthew 6:25
When we read a verse like the ones above, our general response if we are dealing with fear, anxiety, and worry will be something like "Oh sure, easy for you to say," or "I really wish it were just that easy". Fear, worry, and anxiety aren't something we can turn off like a light switch, and often the more we try to resolve these issues with the pure strength of will, the worse they can become.

But within these verses, there is a simple truth that we need to grasp on our journey toward healing and wholeness. That truth is simply accepting the fact that worry and anxiety are futile. Many of us dwell on anxious thoughts or continue to worry because, in some small way, we are functioning out of familiarity with our state of anxiety and fear. Scripture reminds us that we have hope in that we have no real control over those things we are anxious about, but God does! When we choose to go to God in prayer we have the hope that we are turning to a powerful and caring God that desires to see us live in freedom and not the burden of anxiety.
Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?
Luke 12:25-26
