DEVOTIONAL

Most likely, you just opened your Bible to the page after chapter 28 ends and did a double take. You thought you were going to read the next chapter, especially since this devotional directed you to do it. But after a moment of flipping back and forth, you realized there isn’t a 29th chapter of the Book of Acts. Your Bible isn’t defective and probably isn’t missing any pages. You’re right, the book of Acts ends with chapter 28, yet the story is not over. If the book of Acts is the story of the Christian Church, then we are still living in Acts chapter 29 right now! There is no end to the story because the history of the church continues through the centuries, through the present day and into the future. The stories, challenges, miracles, and conflict that happened throughout the Bible and all of church history are still happening even today all around the world. We continue to see God work in a mighty and supernatural way. We continue to see miracles. In fact, we have seen more salvation in the past thirty years than in the previous two-thousand years! The Kingdom of God is still expanding, and the kingdom of Evil is still coming against all that the Gospel of Jesus is accomplishing. The same tactics of opposition, persecution, and distraction to come against the Church are present. The master of deception, known as The Devil, still speaks his native language of lies. The only difference between what you read in Acts and what is today’s reality for the Church is that you are now a part of that story. You are part of the church, the body of Christ! You have an identity and purpose in Christ! You have an opportunity to be a spirit-filled, soul-winning soldier in the Army of God! You can now face down whatever opposition comes your way, weather whatever storms arrive, and press on through any distraction with great faith and hope in Jesus! What will you do with the opportunities and calling that Jesus has set before you? The story of the church of Jesus Christ is still being written. What will that story say about you?
