Forgiven Forgive
And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.”
Mark 11:25
“Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.
Luke 6:37
For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
Matthew 6:14-15
If you needed another reason why forgiveness is wise, no matter how difficult it may seem in the moment, here it is: If you want God to forgive you, you must forgive others, but if you do not forgive the sins of others who have wronged you, then your Father in heaven will not forgive your sins. What a powerful, sobering, and scary thought! The idea that God would withhold forgiveness of sins from those who withhold forgiveness should terrify us. Also, notice that there are no prerequisites for these demands God makes of his followers. He doesn't say; forgive others however, if you were molested, abused, or if a person embezzled money or defrauded you, in that case, you are in the right to withhold forgiveness. No, there is no sin that God will not forgive you, and there should be no sin that you should not forgive another, no matter how heinous or malicious it is.
God isn't calling you to forgive to hurt you further or punish you in any way. Rather the opposite, God knows the freedom on the other side of forgiveness and He wants you to experience that freedom and peace!
Forgiveness is an act of humility, and to not forgive is an act of pride. Always, at the core of withholding forgiveness, there is an issue of pride. It can be difficult to humble oneself and say the words you told yourself you would never say, but with God, even the impossible can be accomplished. With that in mind, as well as what has been revealed to you through this entire track, we hope you have come to a place to take the next step of forgiveness. It can be difficult, and in your own mind impossible even, yet God will be with you and he will give you the strength to do what you cannot do in your own strength. Whether it be your father, mother, ex, sibling, or friend you've had a falling out with, don't put off what you know you need to do any longer. Say the words, write the letter, make the phone call, send the text, or set up the meeting. Whatever you choose to do to move forward, make sure that it is backed up with prayer and that you approach this next step full of grace and the love of God.
