DAY TWO

The Bible

All Scripture is God-breathed, and useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteous.
2 Timothy 3:16

Have you ever wondered why the Bible seems to never get old? Or maybe you have read a passage and felt like it spoke directly to you or your situation. To this day, the Bible is the best-selling book of all time. It is the most notable literary work in human history. The question that lingers is what is the Bible and why is it so significant? Christians firmly believe that the Bible is God’s word communicated through man and centered around Jesus.
First and foremost, the Bible is God’s word meaning the original author of the scriptures is God. This would suggest that the Bible is not just a book and certainly not an ordinary book. There are many implications of God being the primary author of the Bible. One is that the Bible is always relevant, which would answer the question of why a book that was written centuries ago is still the most sought-after resource. Another implication would be that the Bible is perfect or infallible meaning that it is without error. “As for God, his way is perfect: The Lord’s word is flawless” (Psalm 18:30). Also, because God is the author, the Bible has been, is, and always will be preserved throughout time. “Heaven and earth may pass away, but My words will not pass away” (Matthew 24:35).
The Bible is fully and totally God’s word, and He chose to speak through people in history. God could have spoken to us in any way, but he chose to communicate through actual people at real points in history. Many people think the Bible is one book, but it is actually a collection of 66 writings with about 40 different authors written over a span of 1500 years. There are many different genres of writing in the Bible, from the law and historical accounts to poetry and wisdom literature. Needless to say, the Bible is not just God’s instruction manual for a good life, but a diverse collection of writings that fully express the relationship between God and his people.
Scripture is God’s word communicated through man and centered around Jesus. The Bible has many themes that run throughout the narrative, but none are more significant than Jesus. Jesus, Himself says that the scriptures “testify about me.” Jesus is the centerpiece of the Bible. From the Old Testament to the New Testament and from Genesis to Revelation the Bible’s focal point is Jesus which literally means GOD SAVES. God’s word is predicated upon Him saving humanity through His Son, Jesus. As Christians, we have a high view of scripture because it is God’s word communicated through man, centered around Jesus.
