Better Together

There is no substitute for Crew!

Simply put, isolation is one of the most dangerous threats to spiritual and emotional health.

In an increasingly connected yet isolated world, the role of church as a community and small groups within the church community has never been more vital. Small groups, which we call Crews provide an intimate setting for believers to connect, share, and grow together in their walk with Jesus. Additionally, they allow non-believers to learn about and potentially meet Jesus. These groups are designed to combat the dangers of isolation by fostering relationships, providing care, encouraging spiritual disciplines, and guiding members toward the next steps in their faith journey. As God’s creation, we are designed to be in relationship, which is why one of our Core Values here at True North is…We Are Better Together! Crews are essential for cultivating a thriving church community that reflects God’s design for human connection.

Relationships

Hebrews 10:24-25 “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another – and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”
At its core, the church community is a relational body. Crews serve as the heartbeat of this relational dynamic, creating spaces where individuals can truly know and be known. While we may not know everyone, through crews everyone knows someone! In today’s busy and fast-paced society, many people suffer from loneliness despite being surrounded by others. Crews provide an solution by encouraging and fostering meaningful relationships. They create a safe environment for sharing joys, struggles, and life experiences. As Proverbs 27:17 says, "As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another." Through these connections, Crew members encourage and strengthen one another and reflect the love of Christ.

Care

Galatians 6:2 “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ”
One of the primary functions of a Crew is to provide care. In a large community, individual needs can sometimes go unnoticed. Crews allow members to support each other in tangible ways, whether through prayer, meals, or simply being present during difficult times. In moments of grief, sickness, or hardship, the care offered in Crews serves as a reminder that they are not alone. This practical expression of love builds trust and reinforces the importance of being part of a caring community.

Spiritual Disciplines

2 Peter 3:18 “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen”
Spiritual disciplines such as prayer, bible study, and worship are foundational to the Christian life. Crews provide a structured environment to practice these disciplines collectively. Again, not in isolation! Engaging in these practices with others fosters accountability and deeper understanding. As you lead and engage others in spiritual disciplines you are cultivating deeper connection to God that empowers life change. In this way, Crews nurture spiritual growth and equip believers to live out their faith in everyday life.

Growth & Taking Next Steps Toward Jesus

2 Cor 3:18 “And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.”
Crews are a spark for spiritual growth, encouraging others to take intentional steps toward Jesus. Whether it’s learning to share their faith, serving in ministry, or stepping into leadership, small groups provide the encouragement and resources needed for growth. Through shared experiences and accountability, Crews challenge members to grow beyond their comfort zones, continually pursuing Christ and becoming more like him.

Fighting Isolation Through Community

Romans 12:15 “Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.”
Crews counteract isolation by fostering a sense of belonging. They create spaces where individuals feel valued and connected, breaking down barriers that lead to loneliness. Crews remind believers of their dependence on God and one another. Crews play a critical role in helping individuals avoid the dangers of isolation and experience the fullness of life in Christ. Crews provide a framework for authentic community. They help believers fight isolation and move closer to Jesus, fulfilling the church’s mission to Introduce people to Jesus and Disciple them to be fully devoted followers of him.
