Bring Life & Honor

“Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous.”
Hebrews 13:4

A marriage should not only be honored and respected by those in it, but by others who observe it as well. This includes children, singles, and everyone else looking in from the outside. Even couples who are married should show honor towards not only each other but to other married couples as well. We should be careful about how we talk about marriage. It is not something we did and now we are stuck with a "ball and chain". Wives should speak about their husbands with honor and respect, even if they are speaking about where that man could grow to be, and husbands should speak about their wives, and all wives, with a sense of love, respect, and compassion for the role of a wife. Marriage is too important in God's eyes for us to be flippant or disrespectful about it. Make a choice to speak words that bring life to marriage and hold it in high honor.

Not only should our words be honoring marriage, but our thoughts and actions as well. Adultery of the mind or body is not only physical but a spiritual act as well. The warning in Hebrews is addressed to members of the church. It is important for us as followers of Jesus to be on guard against temptations involving sexual sin. Many believers have been swayed or deceived by the promise of pleasure outside of marriage. It is vital that both husband and wife create an environment in their marriage that is healthy, wise, and discerning in this regard, both for themselves and also for their spouse.
