Tainted Love
This message takes us on a journey through the biblical concept of Eros love and reveals how it exposes both our deepest longings and our greatest vulnerabilities as human beings. We're brought back to Genesis 3, where Adam and Eve's disobedience didn't just introduce sin into the world, but revealed something profound: the moment God's presence was removed from their relationship, they suddenly became aware of their nakedness, their insecurity, and their inadequacy. What changed? Not their bodies, but their source of security. Before the fall, God's presence filled every void, providing complete satisfaction and security in their union. After sin entered, they looked to each other to fill what only God could provide—and immediately experienced shame, fear of rejection, and blame. This is the core struggle we all face: Eros love, when not submitted to Agape love (God's sacrificial love), becomes possessive, idolatrous, and ultimately disappointing. Sexual desire is God's gift, designed for covenant marriage between one man and one woman, but society has inverted the order—placing pleasure above God rather than under His authority. The message challenges us to embrace the suffering and self-denial required to honor God's design, recognizing that our sexual desires, while real and powerful, must be surrendered to a greater love. This isn't about denying reality but about acknowledging that only when Eros is submitted to Agape can we experience the blessing God intended. We're called to walk as children of light in a dark world, not ashamed of the gospel even when it contradicts cultural norms.
