God Over Gold

This message confronts us with a question we rarely ask ourselves: who is really in control of our money—are we directing it with godly wisdom, or has it quietly become our master? Drawing from Jesus' stark warning in Matthew 6:24 that we cannot serve both God and money, we're invited into an honest heart checkup about the role possessions play in our lives. Through ten practical signs—from checking our investment balances obsessively to believing our self-worth is tied to our bank accounts—we're given a mirror to examine whether money has become an idol in our hearts. The message beautifully contrasts the temporary nature of earthly treasures with the eternal value of storing up treasures in heaven through generosity, contentment, and putting God first. We're reminded through 1 Timothy 6 that godliness with contentment equals great gain, not the other way around. The practical challenge is clear: worship the Provider, not the provision. When we tithe faithfully, give generously, and pursue contentment rather than accumulation, we're not just managing money wisely—we're declaring that Jesus is Lord over every area of our lives. This isn't about guilt or legalism; it's about freedom. Like a barn that lasts generations under a good roof, our lives flourish under the covering of God's lordship over our finances.
