Team Training

Outside of Sunday operations of the team here are some vital things that you need to know before you start to shadow and join team.

Make sure to take the quick survey at the bottom of the page so that we can schedule you to shadow.

Team Expectations

We view serving on the Next Step Team as a leadership role, one suited for a seasoned believer who can encourage others, pray with them, and model a Christ-centered life. We don’t expect perfection, but we do expect a life lived with honesty and integrity before Jesus and the church.

As a leader at True North Church, we ask that you understand and agree with our mission, core values, and beliefs so you can help others grow in knowledge and wisdom.
Mission Statement
We exist to introduce people to Jesus and disciple them to be fully devoted followers of Him.
Core Values
UNTIL EVERYONE KNOWS | EVANGELISM
We have all been commissioned to know God and make Him known. Telling people about Jesus is central to the Christian life. This can happen across the globe and across the street. This calling doesn’t end…until everyone knows.

Mark 16:15 “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.”

MADE TO MOVE | DISCIPLESHIP
God made each person with an identity to live in and a purpose to fulfill. It’s so exciting to see people come to that realization and begin this amazing journey of being a Christ follower. We must be reminded daily that following after Jesus never means standing still, there is always a Next Step...we are made to move.

Acts 17:28 “For in Him we live and move and have our being…”

BECAUSE HE GAVE | GENEROSITY
Everything we have is because of the love and sacrifice of the Father. The sooner we realize that we give and live generous lives because He gave first, the sooner we can live an abundant and blessed life.

1 John 4:19  “We love because He first loved us.”

BETTER TOGETHER | BIBLICAL COMMUNITY
We have all been called and created to do life together in Biblical Community. This was Gods plan for the church and also for you as a Christ follower. When we realize that we were never meant to do life alone, we can begin to grow and be strengthened by each other...we are better together.

Proverbs 27:17 “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.”

SAVED TO SERVE | SERVING
Something happens within us when we realize that Jesus didn’t come to be served, but to serve. In the same way, we, as followers of Christ, should first look to serve the needs of others the same way that Jesus served us...we are saved to serve.

Matthew 20:28 “Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Core Beliefs
GOD
God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He eternally exists in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God. (Genesis 1:1,26,27; 3:22, Psalm 90:2, Matthew 28:19, I Peter 1:2, II Corinthians 13:14)

MAN
Man is made in the image of God. He is the supreme object of God's creation. Although God designed Man to have fellowship with him, man became alienated from God through disobedience. As a result, all human beings are born with a sinful nature and choose to sin against God. Man is incapable of regaining a right relationship with God through his own efforts. (Genesis 1:27, Psalm 8:3-6, Isaiah 53:6a, Romans 3:23, Colossians 1:21, Isaiah 59:1-2)

ETERNITY
Man was created to exist forever. He will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or in union with God, through forgiveness and salvation. When you die, you will either spend eternity in Heaven or Hell. Eternal separation from God happens in Hell. Eternal union with God occurs in Heaven. (John 3:16, I John 2:25; 5:11-13, Romans 6:23, Revelation 20:15)

JESUS CHRIST
Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all men by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven's glory and will return again to reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. (Matthew 1:22-23, Isaiah 9:6, John 1:1-5; 14:10-30, Hebrews 4:14-15, I Corinthians 15:3-4, Romans 1:3-4, Acts 1:9-11, I Timothy 6:14-15, Titus 2:13)

SALVATION
Salvation is a gift from God to all humanity. Man can never make up for his sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God's offer of forgiveness can Man be saved from sin's penalty. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith. (Romans 6:23, Ephesians 2:8-9, John 14:6; 1:12, Titus 3:5, Galatians 3:26, Romans 5:1)

BAPTISM
The Bible says that every person who believes in Christ should be baptized. Water Baptism identifies the believer with Christ in his death, burial and resurrection.  It is an act of obedience that is proceeded by repentance and a public testimony.  It is the the outward expression of an inward experience.  (see Romans 6:4-5, Acts 2:41; 8:12-13)

THE HOLY SPIRIT
The Holy Spirit is equal with the Father and the Son as God. He is present in the world to make humanity aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every believer from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. The Christian seeks to live under His control daily. (II Corinthians 3:17, John 16:7-13; 14:16-17, Acts 1:8, I Corinthians 2:12; 3:16, Ephesians 1:13, Galatians 5:25, Ephesians 5:18)

THE CHURCH
We believe the church is the Body of Christ, both universal and local, and is composed of individuals who, through faith in Jesus Christ, have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit. We believe that Jesus is the Head and Lord of the local church and that the mission of the church is worship, evangelism, discipleship, and the nurturing and care of one another. (Matthew 28:1-20, Colossians 1:18; Ephesians 2:19-22)

THE BIBLE
The Bible is God's Word to all men. It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. (II Timothy 3:16-17, II Peter 1:20-21, II Timothy 1:13, Psalm 119:105,160, Psalm 12:6, Proverbs 30:5)

SECOND COMING
We believe in the personal return of the Lord Jesus Christ, the consummation of the Kingdom of God and the restoration of all things spoken of by the prophets. (Matthew 24: 42-44; Acts 1:11, 3:11, 3:19-20; Revelation 3:10-11, 22:7-12)

Thank you for taking the first step in onboarding with the True North Next Steps Team.

Please review the content and videos on this page at your own pace. Once you’ve completed everything, submit the survey at the bottom of the page, and we’ll schedule a shadow date with a team member.

At its core, the Next Steps Team exists to care for people well.
Every person who approaches us is taking a step—sometimes practical, sometimes deeply personal. Our role is to meet them in that moment with care, clarity, and compassion.

Our mission as a team can be summed up in three words:
Edify. Resource. Record.

First — Edify.
We believe we should see and love people like Christ does.
We provide a smiling face and a safe place, building people up through prayer and Scripture so they know God is present—no matter their situation.

Sometimes that looks like praying with someone.
Sometimes it looks like listening well.
And sometimes it’s simply reminding someone they’re not alone.

We’re not here to rush people through a process—we’re here to point them back to Christ.

After completing onboarding, you’ll receive access to the Next Steps resources. These tools will equip you with practical Scripture and prayer prompts to encourage people through specific seasons, topics, and needs.

Second — Resource.
We desire that everyone who comes to Next Steps leaves with a clear application or resource that will continue to grow and strengthen them throughout the week.

That might be Care+ track, a devotional, a course, or a conversation with a pastor or staff member. We don’t have to be experts in everything—our role is to direct people toward the right next step and the right support.

Many of these resources can be found on the True North website and app. Whether you’re helping someone complete a care form or showing them how to start a devotional, becoming familiar with the True North app is essential.

And finally — Record.

Whether someone makes a decision to follow Jesus or requests prayer during a difficult season, we record that step using a Next Steps form.

This is not about collecting data.
Every number represents a person.
Every person represents a story.
Recording these moments allows our pastors and staff to come alongside people throughout the week with continued care and meaningful follow-up. Technology plays an important role in this—whether that’s explaining how to use a QR code or helping someone submit a form on an iPad.

That’s the heart of the Next Steps Team—
caring for people intentionally, prayerfully, and faithfully.

We’re glad you’re here.

Resource

Resources are an important discipleship tool for both the Team and the Church Family. It’s vital that team members are aware of all the resources available to support and serve the Church Family.
Video Script
One of our core values is that we are made for more.
Because of that, resources are a vital part of discipleship—for both the Next Steps Team and our church family.

Below are some of the key resources available, all accessible through the app and website: Care+, Knowing, devotionals, pre-marriage coaching, marriage mentoring, financial coaching, parenting resources, and a wide range of topical resources. Our desire is to equip and strengthen families in and through every season.

As pastors and staff, we are always available as a resource—especially on Sundays. Sometimes that’s a simple introduction or conversation, and other times it may involve a more sensitive situation that requires pastoral care. You are never expected to handle those moments alone. We’re here to support you.

After completing onboarding, you’ll receive access to the Next Steps resources. These tools will equip you with practical Scripture and prayer prompts to help encourage people through specific seasons, topics, and needs.

It’s important that every team member is aware of the resources available to support and care for people well. These tools help us walk alongside others through every season of life.
Care+ Tracks
Topical interactive devotionals to meet you in and help you through different seasons of life. Each track contains topical written devotionals, personal testimonies, podcasts, past and present messages and more. More tracks coming soon.
Knowing
Knowing is a tool and starting point that ignites a passion for the Word of God. We believe as you lean into biblical truths and apply them in your life you will walk in purpose, peace, joy and freedom that is only found in Jesus.
Baptism & Dedication Previews
Our team has developed both print and digital resources that explain what baptisms and dedications are—and what they are not—grounded in what the Bible teaches. Our desire is to encourage intentional movement.
Marriage
We offer a variety of marriage-related resources on our website, including pre-marriage courses (starting with marriage preview process), marriage coaching, and topical resources. Our coaches are equipped with biblically aligned tools and resources to walk alongside our church family with wisdom, care, and compassion.
Financial
We offer annual financial workshops focused on budgeting and stewardship, one-on-one financial coaching, and practical tools to help steward the resources God has entrusted to us. We also provide a Legacy devotional that explores what the Bible teaches about stewardship and money.
Devotionals
Our church has developed over twenty devotionals in the Bible App that align with our preaching series, designed to help foster a rich, daily relationship with Jesus.
Parenting
We’ve gathered resources to help parents disciple their children, including kid’s worship, Bible shows, devotionals, and more. Our heart is for children to want to know Jesus and grow in their faith beyond Sunday. These resources are designed to help parents guide their children’s spiritual development throughout the week.
Wellness Center
Professional Counselors, Trained Coaches and Community Groups with a Christian Worldview delivering Clinical Excellence. We will offer counseling with the Integration of Biblical truth within proven psychological insights as people move towards healing and hope in Christ.

Record

Recording ministry moments from Sunday allows pastors and staff to continue the conversation in the days, weeks, and months that follow. This ongoing follow-up, encouragement, and support has a significant impact on the longevity of someone’s walk with Jesus.
Video Script
One of the most important things we do in the Next Steps space is record ministry moments. What happens on a Sunday allows pastors and staff to follow up in the days and weeks that follow, helping support and strengthen someone’s walk with Jesus.

Technology helps make this possible. We encourage every team member to be familiar with the tools available on a Sunday to record ministry moments and connect people to care and resources throughout the week.
QR codes, iPads in the Next Steps space, and even personal devices like iPhones can all be used to record information. If there are internet issues, a team member can help—we want to remove every roadblock to connection and care.

Whether someone has made a decision to follow Jesus, needs prayer, or simply needs encouragement, taking a moment to record that step helps us steward the ministry opportunity well. What may begin as a simple Sunday conversation can become a lifelong journey of faith.
QR Codes
QR codes link directly to forms for collecting a person’s information. They can also be used during the week if someone isn’t able to complete a form on Sunday.
True North App
The True North App serves as a bridge, connecting people directly to next steps, resources, past message series, worship, and giving.
Next Step iPad
Next Step iPads provide a simple and convenient way for people to access and complete forms, connecting them to the resources and support they need.
Internet Connection
Connect with a team lead or staff member to access the Wi-Fi and ensure data can be collected. Network sources vary from campus to campus.
