Proverbs 3:9-10
9 Honor the LORD with your wealth,
with the first fruits of all your crops;
10 then your barns will be filled to overflowing,
and your vats will brim over with new wine.
Isn’t that wonderful? We actually "honor" the Lord when we give the first fruits. What could ever be more satisfying in our lives than honoring Jesus? The answer is nothing.
The writer then shares that our “barns will be filled to overflowing” and our “vats will brim over.” It makes me think of the wonderful verse found in Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord. “Plans to prosper you, and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future.”
As you continue to see tangible evidence of God working in and through you during this season, we want to share a previous Tithing Challenge story with you to celebrate what He has accomplished and to infuse some extra encouragement as you climb closer to the end of these 30 days.
This story comes from a young woman who grew up in the church and has watched her parents faithfully tithing.
“I was recently able to find a stable job that fit my lifestyle and schedule. My parents had always talked about putting God first in my finances but had not yet made the decision to live that out myself. I made the decision and began tithing a couple of months into my job. Though I believed in the heart of the principle of tithing and desired to honor God, I did not expect that God would actually respond in a tangible way. He did though! A few months after getting the job, I was offered a promotion that came with a raise. I had been worrying about eventually having to find a second job to make ends meet and was uncertain if I could continue. With this new position, that was not necessary. Not only did I see God take care of my finances, but I was also able to step into a leadership position, and having been in some True North College open courses, was able to apply the principles of leadership I have learned to my new role!”
Isn’t that worth celebrating? She was blessed beyond God’s simple provision in her financial needs, but beyond that, demonstrated His favor in bringing her into a role to impact others. God will always honor a generous heart! We believe our hearts should always be in the position of generosity because HE GAVE FIRST. God’s blessing is most profound in the areas where our hearts are firmly aligned with His.
Don’t forget, we love hearing your stories as it relates to the Tithing Challenge. We are always encouraged to hear how God is working in your life, so feel free to share your story with us!
