DAY ELEVEN
Creation
By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and by the breath of His mouth all their host.

One of the most foundational Christian beliefs is none other than Creation. The Bible begins with the book of Genesis which means origin, start, or beginning. Throughout Genesis and the entire Bible, we gain insight into God’s elaborate and intelligent design of creation. The Bible clearly lays out how God created the heavens and the earth and all its inhabitants in a six-day period and that He rested from His work on the seventh day (Exodus 20:11).
In the beginning God… The Bible’s first sentence clearly shows us before creation there was an all-sufficient, triune God. God is all-sufficient in that He depends on nothing to exist, yet everything that exists depends on Him. God is before all things, and in Him, all things hold together (Colossians 1:17). He is triune in that God exists as one God in three persons, the trinity. Within the Trinity, there is a community. Even before creation, God existed in the community; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God is the source of creation. The Creator needs nothing, but creation needs a Creator.
God created the heavens and the earth. Through the power of his word, He created everything we see and know. He created light, the heavens and earth, dry land and seas, plants and animals, sun, moon, and stars. God is good and the source of all goodness, therefore He deemed what He created as good.
Then God said, Let us make man in Our own image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and overall the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth (Genesis 1:26). God created man uniquely in His image. Into man, God breathed His spirit (Genesis 2:7). We are God’s special creation, His masterpiece. To humanity, God has given us power and dominion. He also has given us the ability to be in an intimate relationship with Him. He has placed eternity in the human heart.
For the Christian, creation begins with God. God created all that is created, and we are His creation. We have chosen to worship the Creator, the Source, and the Life-Giver not the creation itself.
