Marriage is God’s design. People were never meant to redefine what marriage is because God created it and defined it. It was his idea and it was a perfect idea! God created marriage in the Garden of Eden between one man and one woman to be a union where each person supported the other as the two become one flesh. Marriage between a man and woman is the most significant relationship outside of one's relationship with God. It is the foundation of a healthy family and a healthy community as well. A marriage, like your relationship with God, is a covenant between each other and God. Because it is a covenant with God, it is important that both the man and women understand who God is and honor him in his rightful place. If both men and women understand that they are under God's authority in all they do, then both can function in their God-given roles and responsibilities. As you read this, you may be thinking, “I am only a teenager and I do not plan on getting married anytime soon”. This may be 100 percent fair and true, but one day if you plan to get married, you will bring a lifetime of decisions and choices into that marriage. The decisions you make today will be tomorrow's memories. Make wise decisions today because that won’t just affect you, but it will also affect your relationship with your spouse. In that way, we can hold a high value of marriage and present ourselves as the spouse your future spouse is looking for.
